Weekend in Review: Memorial Day Weekend

We had a great extended holiday weekend. First off, we are thankful for all of the men and woman who have and are currently serving so that we can enjoy the freedom that we do. As a young adult I was probably not as appreciative as I should have been on days like this but now as a parent, both Justin and I really try to remind the girls of why we get the day off together. Neither of us actually have any really close friends or family members who are veterans (besides grandparents) but it is still really important for us to teach them to appreciate our veterans as well as police officers and fire fighters. Hopefully it will sink in eventually.

On Friday night, I had a soccer game and Everly came with me. Thankfully our game was not that late so Saturday morning we got up early to hike Squaw Peak. I hiked with my sisters and my sister's boyfriend. It was a quick hard hike and it was good to knock it out early. My mom picked up the girls when I got back home to take them to breakfast and Justin was going in to work for half a day to take advantage of some overtime so I ended up having some time to myself Saturday morning. I got to eat my eggs, drink my coffee, and run a few errands. It was pretty nice. I got some shopping done later in the day and then took the girls to church while Justin made us some yummy chili. It's always a crap shoot, but the girls were both really good and sweet for me during church. Aspen misses a lot because she often naps late on Saturday but she loved all of the music and was dancing the whole time. On Sunday morning I slept in while Justin went out on a run. Everly and I went grocery shopping while Justin did some work around the house/pool. I went to a movie with my mom and sisters and got to hold baby Nora for part of it. She is a little angel. I picked up a $5 growler on the way home and later that night, everyone came over for some pool time and subs.

On Monday I got in a 6-mile run and some gym time which was really nice. Aspen out of nowhere ended up throwing up after breakfast. It was the first time she has ever thrown up and so she was a little scared by it. She actually seemed fine shortly after but we watched what she ate and gave her some Tylenol for a low fever so hopefully it was just a quick bug. We tackled some cleaning in the girls room which was much needed. We put away long sleeve clothes and things that they have grown out if, which is like a constant cycle in our house. The toy room is still a hot mess but it felt really good to get those clothes put away. The best thing about a long weekend is following it up with a short work week!

Preschool Yearbook

Everly has less than a week left of school and this week her yearbook came in. I hesitated buying one but since she is no longer going to be attending St. Gregory, I wanted to have some documentation of her time there since it has been such a great experience. I am so glad that I bought it because she is actually in it a lot! Also, she talks about her classmates all the time but Justin never gets to see them, so it was cool for him to be able to see who she always talks about. Also, we were able to determine that her older friend from aftercare, Antonio, is in 7th grade, haha. One day I picked her up in aftercare and she had to give him a hug before she left, haha. Here are a few pics from her yearbook that I just took on my phone.

Weekend in Review

We had a really good weekend. My house is still messy but I felt good Sunday night and I have a 4-day weekend coming up so I can clean then! Friday night Justin met his sister for happy hour and I took the girls to run an errand at the mall. We stopped by Trader Joes afterwards because Everly loves the little shopping carts and I love their dark chocolate pretzels and cauliflower rice (not together). Saturday morning I met my sisters for a 4-mile hike/run at Pinnacle Peak. It was a good hard hike and felt good. We met my mom and nephew for a quick bagel and coffee after. After I got home we got the girls ready and headed over to Scottsdale for some splash pad time. It was my girls first splash pad of the season and my nieces and nephews met us there. We ate lunch in the grass and it was just a really nice afternoon. Everly, my mom and I stayed longer and did some shopping. Everly is really a great little girl. I treated her to a little outfit for her American Girl doll because it was only $10.00. After shopping Everly fell asleep in the car so I just went to church a little early and let her sleep as long as possible. She was still grumpy for church but what can you do. Sunday morning I slept in a little but still got in a 6-mile run. It was hot so I won't be able to do that much longer but I was proud of myself for not cutting it short or bailing all together. While we didn't get the house all cleaned, we did clean out the garage so that Justin can park in there. We got rid of a lot of junk, so yay! Sunday night we had dinner at my sister's for the first time in like a month as her house has been adjusting to life with 3 kids. I got my baby-wearing time in so I'm set for the week! Haha! Can't wait to kick but this week and enjoy the long weekend! Here are some pictures from the weekend and a video from the splash pad:
