Weekend in Review: Memorial Day Weekend

We had a great extended holiday weekend. First off, we are thankful for all of the men and woman who have and are currently serving so that we can enjoy the freedom that we do. As a young adult I was probably not as appreciative as I should have been on days like this but now as a parent, both Justin and I really try to remind the girls of why we get the day off together. Neither of us actually have any really close friends or family members who are veterans (besides grandparents) but it is still really important for us to teach them to appreciate our veterans as well as police officers and fire fighters. Hopefully it will sink in eventually.

On Friday night, I had a soccer game and Everly came with me. Thankfully our game was not that late so Saturday morning we got up early to hike Squaw Peak. I hiked with my sisters and my sister's boyfriend. It was a quick hard hike and it was good to knock it out early. My mom picked up the girls when I got back home to take them to breakfast and Justin was going in to work for half a day to take advantage of some overtime so I ended up having some time to myself Saturday morning. I got to eat my eggs, drink my coffee, and run a few errands. It was pretty nice. I got some shopping done later in the day and then took the girls to church while Justin made us some yummy chili. It's always a crap shoot, but the girls were both really good and sweet for me during church. Aspen misses a lot because she often naps late on Saturday but she loved all of the music and was dancing the whole time. On Sunday morning I slept in while Justin went out on a run. Everly and I went grocery shopping while Justin did some work around the house/pool. I went to a movie with my mom and sisters and got to hold baby Nora for part of it. She is a little angel. I picked up a $5 growler on the way home and later that night, everyone came over for some pool time and subs.

On Monday I got in a 6-mile run and some gym time which was really nice. Aspen out of nowhere ended up throwing up after breakfast. It was the first time she has ever thrown up and so she was a little scared by it. She actually seemed fine shortly after but we watched what she ate and gave her some Tylenol for a low fever so hopefully it was just a quick bug. We tackled some cleaning in the girls room which was much needed. We put away long sleeve clothes and things that they have grown out if, which is like a constant cycle in our house. The toy room is still a hot mess but it felt really good to get those clothes put away. The best thing about a long weekend is following it up with a short work week!

Saturday in Review

Last Saturday was the first Saturday in a while where we really didn't have anywhere to be or anywhere to go. We had some party prep and cleaning to get done around the house but there was not much else on our agenda and it was nice. I started the morning with an early hike with my sister Kim and friend Ashley. We were at the mountain (Piestewa Peak) at 5 A.M. so I am not exaggerating when I say early! We made it to the top in like 33 minutes too so it was a pretty quick hike. When I got back to my sister's house, my nephew was up and I decided to steal him and bring him to my house to play with Everly. They are for sure a handful but they love seeing each other. They get along and fight like brother and sister. It is cute and exhausting all rolled together. They did pretty good though and we even did a little painting craft. Justin got a lot of yard work done while the kids played outside and we made our first batch of cold-brew coffee at home to be served during the little party Sunday morning. I also made some chocolate chip pancake bites to dip in syrup for the party and those were super easy and yummy too. I didn't shower until like 5 o'clock but it was a really nice Saturday regardless!
