Home Depot Workshop: April 2017

This month's workshop was an Easter themed project to build and paint an Easter basket so we decided it would be a good first project for Aspen to do. She was slightly distracted because the Home Depot we went to was handing out bags of freshly popped popcorn and that is Aspen's weakness. Girl loves her popcorn. Justin was able to build her Easter basket pretty quickly so she could get right into painting so she ended up doing pretty good. She has some odd color choices but I cleaned it up a little so it was at least completely painted. Everly did a great job with her hammering and I convinced her to stick with pastel colors so hers turned our really cute. I need to put some candy in them and leave them out on the table for Easter. Gone are our days of just one of us going to the workshop because Aspen will need one on one attention for a long time but I am glad she can finally start collecting her pins!

Home Depot Workshop

Last Saturday was our first Home Depot Workshop of 2017. This project was a good one. Everly made a toolbox. She doesn't have any tools yet to put it in, but currently it is carrying a tiny water bottle because she said if she is working hard she will get thirsty. She also painted it purple because, girls. She was a little bummed we didn't go to the same workshop as her cousins but sometimes the weekends are so busy that it is hard to make that happen. Everly hammered in all of the nails on her project and is also getting really good at painting. I know that sounds weird but when she was younger she would either glob on too much paint and it would take FOREVER to dry or she would not use enough paint and it would be streaky and Justin or I would have to fill it in. I also love that she is not one of those kids that has to use all of the colors. She likes things simple and clean and she does a good job of getting things done fast which is why we are able to go every month. Now we just need to get her some play tools for her toolbox!

Home Depot Workshops

We have been to two Home Depot Kids Workshops the past two weekends.  Thanksgiving weekend the kids made a super cute holiday picture frame. It was a simple build and we are totally going to use it to put the Santa picture in once we take it. Since it was kind of an "extra" workshop in November, it was really quiet at home depot that day which is always nice when wrangling up several kids. Last weekend the project was a holiday candy dish and was also very cute. Everly did such a great job at hammering all of the nails in on her project. We went to a different home depot for this one and it was pretty busy but they had snacks and a certificate when you finished. They also had a 10th workshop pin which Everly should have gotten like 9 workshops ago but we just found out about it so that was cool. She will get another one at her 25th workshop next year.

Weekend in Review

This weekend went by fast. Thankfully we have a short week because of the holiday Friday, so at least we have that to look forward to. Justin was gone for a good part of the weekend doing his Ragnar Trail Run. He left Thursday night so I had the girls by myself that night and then Friday and a good part of Saturday until he got home. Thankfully with help from my sisters and mom, it wasn't too bad, but I would just rather him be home, haha. Friday night my mom took Everly to see Trolls so me and Aspen had a little alone time. Saturday morning I couldn't leave to go to the gym or anything so I ended up running with the girls in the jogging stroller to Home Depot for the kids workshop. It is 2.5 miles each way so not too bad and I still get to log 5 miles. It was hot though since I am used to running earlier in the morning. I asked my brother-in-law to meet me at home depot to help Ev with her project since Aspen usually needs a lot of attention. Of course, she was actually really good and just chilled in the stroller but it was nice to have the extra help. We also had Everly's last soccer game on Saturday. She is going to have her final party next week where she will get her trophy. When Justin got home Saturday we were all pretty tired and just stayed home. Sunday we got some cleaning done and went through the girls clothes to make room for bigger sizes and warmer clothes. I feel like I am always doing this! I had a soccer game on Sunday so I got a little alone time which was nice but I already miss my girls and can't wait until next weekend!

Weekend in Review

July was sooo crazy with vacations, birthdays and trips so I haven't done a weekend in review post in a while. Last weekend we didn't have a ton on the schedule which was really nice to have. I have a few things coming up in August as well so it is going to get busy again which made last weekend even more nice. I even managed to get in two naps, haha! On Friday night my mom and sister came over to watch the Opening Ceremony for the Olympics. The girls had their Olympics outfits on and looked so cute. Saturday morning I got up early for a solo hike. I didn't really want to go so I was proud of myself for knocking it out anyways. The trail was still a bit worn down from some of the rain but it actually made it a lot less dusty so that wasn't too bad. Shortly after I got back home we went to home depot for the August Kids Workshop. This month it was a skateboard pencil box. It turned out really cute, although I think I glued Everly's box shut so we might need to work on that. Saturday night the girls went swimming and then Sunday morning we did a little shopping at the mall. Sunday night we had dinner at my sisters while watching some Olympics which was a pretty good end to the weekend.
