Last Saturday we got up super early to get in some Zoo time before it got crazy hot. My sister met us there and the girls had a blast. We didn't spend a ton of time walking around before hitting up the splashpad because it was kind of humid but we did get to see the jaguar, alligators, and the tortoise getting a hose down. The splashpad was great. It was not very busy when we got there so the kids had free range. We let them play there for a while before hitting up the carousel on the way out. I think it was like 90 degrees when we got to the zoo at 6:30 that morning but the kids don't care about that and they had a blast.
On Friday I had the day off but I knew we were going to be having record heat so I planned to go to Dave & Buster's with the girls to stay in the air conditioning! I had some gift cards too so it worked great because it didn't cost me anything. I actually still have some gift cards left so I will be going back but just with Everly. Aspen was a little overwhelmed by all of the lights and noise and was a lot more needy than I would have liked so it was harder to play with Everly. Even some games where all she had to do was press a big button, she didn't want to do. She did really like ski ball though so she did have fun. She also liked that game where you drop coins in and hope they push other coins off the ledge. It's probably the most lame game. Everly on the other hand had a blast. She was bouncing around from game to game. She also really loves ski ball but did great on the football game too as well as some more video game type games. The girls had plenty of points to get some prizes after. Everly used most of the points on a puppy but Aspen was happy with some cheap bracelets and a bouncy ball so it was a success! Can't wait to take Everly back!
These girls in matching dresses just kills me! Will they hate me for it some day? Maybe!
The game on the right is my favorite. Everly won 500 tickets on her first try
We had a great 4th of July weekend with lots of celebrating. I actually started my weekend with a long 8 mile run with my sister. It was hot but I am glad we got it done. Later that morning my sisters came over to go swimming. Everly discovered something that fell to the bottom of the pool and became obsessed with diving to the bottom to get it. On Saturday night I met my sister-in-law and niece out at a bar for a fun night out. We had a blast and I can't wait to go out with them again. On Sunday I was basically useless from going out the night before. I don't think I even left the house. My family came over that night since we had other plans for the actual 4th of July and Everly had a birthday party to go to on the 3rd. We had burgers and swam in the pool. My sister bought Everly a set of diving rings so her and Teddy had a blast. On Monday I was feeling a little productive again so I went for a run and to the gym before Justin had to leave for work. Everly has summer camp so I had the day with Aspen. We got my car serviced and picked up our grocery order before I had to take Aspen to her swim class. It was rough but she did great. I felt bad so I took her to the mall after. She had fun planning and we stayed cool. I tried to take her out to lunch because I thought it would be fun, but she wouldn't eat anything. She just wanted to play under the table, haha. Oh, well! Monday night Everly had a birthday party to go to so I took her and then we all watched nearby fireworks with my family later that night. On the 4th we went to my sister-in-law's new apartment downtown for a pool party and dinner. The kids had a blast and it was great to see everyone. It was super hard to go back to work on Wednesday after 4 days off but thankfully its a short week!
Looks tiny here but we saw several hot air balloons launching
Last weekend we took the girls to the July Workshop at Home Depot. The project this month was probably my least favorite yet, a bug catcher. The build was not too bad but the location we went to was pretty busy because we didn't get there as early as we should have. Aspen actually did a little hammering this time but then wanted nothing to do with painting. It probably didn't help that this location had snacks for the kids so she was really more focused on that. It is kind of crazy how each location does it a little differently. I am pretty sure Teddy already has a bug in his box but I will probably get rid of the girls before they decide they want to catch some! Next months project is a Penske truck so that should be a pretty simple build that all of the kids will like!
