Daddy Daughter Date

Last Friday night Justin planned a date night for him and Everly. CityScape in downtown Phoenix does a free movie night once a month and last Friday it was Finding Nemo in preparation for the sequel, Finding Dory coming out this week. It sounds like it would be really hot but it was slightly overcase and Everly got to play in the splashpad before eating dinner and watching the movie so Justin said it actually wasn't that bad. They got their early and got a seat in the front but it was actually a little loud so if you ever go to one, sit farther back. Justin also treated Everly to some frozen yogurt after the movie so she was really excited. I had a soccer game that night so my mom watched Aspen during my game and we all got home around the same time. I really enjoy my one on one time with Everly shopping and running errands but Justin doesn't always get as many of those opportunities so I am really glad they got to have this time together. She is at a really fun age right now and lucky that she has a great Papa that wants to spend time with her.

Baby Signing Storytime

Last Friday I was off from work and my sister needed a little help with my niece Mae in the morning so while Everly was at summer camp I took Aspen and Mae to a special sign language focused story time for babies. It was a little bit interesting because Aspen was teething and Mae fell asleep on the car ride over but it wasn't too bad. Mae just wanted to cuddle for a bit but eventually warmed up. Aspen is still having a hard time sharing with other kids which is not something we dealt with when Everly was this age so hopefully she grows out of this phase soon. She shares when it is on her terms but only then. Storytime ended with lots of toys and bubbles so it was all worth it. Mae fell asleep again on the way home (only a 7 minute drive) and Aspen told me "shhh" when I went to get her out of the car. They are 9 month apart and while that once felt like a big gap it is feeling smaller and smaller as they get older. I hope they appreciate having cousins so close in age as they grow up!

Mae slept for like 3 hours after that and Aspen and I had some quiet time before her nap.

Weekend in Review

Despite the crazy high 115 degree record temperatures, we had a really good weekend. Friday night we had our first soccer game of the new session and we beat a team that beat us last session so that was a nice way to start the new session. Since my game wasn't too late on Friday night, I got up really early to beat the heat for my run. During my run I saw a dresser that someone had put out on their curb for bulk trash pick-up and it looked good enough for Justin to refinish so later in the morning we went and picked it up and he already started working on it. I was so hot when I finished my run so I took a quick dip in the pool at 6:30 AM and it felt great. Before it got too hot we took the girls for bagels at the park so they could get some energy out at the playground. Aspen has a funny way of eating bagels but we had fun. After the park Everly and I went to Home Depot for our father's day project while Justin took Aspen home. Saturday night I took both the girls to church before meeting my mom and sister's for a girls night at Scottsdale Quarter. The babies did some splashing and then we had yummy pizza and salads at Grimaldi's. Justin had a nice quiet night to himself, haha. Sunday morning the girls and I slept in while Justin went for a run and workout. I look forward to the one day a week where I get to sleep in. We got some cleaning and shopping done and then had some family over for hot dogs and pool time. The only way to survive these crazy temps is to get in as much pool time as possible. I think we are about ready for some weeknight swimming too!

Home Depot Kids Workshop: Father's Day

The Home Depot Kids Workshop project for June was a Father's Day present so Saturday morning Everly and I went to Home Depot by ourselves. The project was atTrophy cell phone holder. It was pretty easy and Everly did really well with the hammering and painting. She even kept the painting simple with only one color which is shocking. She was really sweet and kept hugging me and I really love spending one on one time with her and I think Justin will actually be able to use this on his desk at work.

Preschool Graduation 2016

Yesterday, Everly had her Preschool graduation celebration at St. Gregory's. I can't say enough good things about how wonderful this school year was for her. Most importantly she got a head start on her religious education which she will continue at our parish in the fall. She would not have gotten that at any other preschool and it was not something I felt knowledgeable enough in teaching her. She also made a lot of progress with her letter recognition and sounds and can spell some words even. She can spell and write her full name and knows the sounds of most if not all of the letters. We also really loved all of the extra activities she was involved in such as taking sign language classes, soccer club, the Christmas Pageant, Catholic Schools week and the jog-a-thon. We are going to miss St. Gregory's a lot but determined that in the long run it was best for our family for her to switch to a public Kindergarten now. The celebration yesterday was pretty short but it was cute. They sang a few songs and received their certificates and had some refreshments. We surprised her with flowers, balloons and a new pair of earrings. We are so proud of her!
